Brokopondo district tour
Brokopondo is known for the reservoir and its hydroelectric power plant, and also for the beautiful Brownsberg nature reserve.
On the edge of Lelydorp lies the Neotropical Butterfly Park, the butterfly park and breeding farm of Ewout and Amira Eriks.
Departure times and meeting points can change. If they do, everyone who has booked receives an e-mail straight away.
The butterfly garden did not survive the COVID period. We are still looking for a good replacement for this part of the tour. We can arrange this together with you: a visit to Reeburg (where there are lots of animals) or a short visit to Santigron.
This day tour centres on the Para district, where you get to know various local crafts.
You get a guided tour of Paraflor, a garden opened in 2010.
This garden grew out of Heliconia nurseries that have existed for decades.
The guide tells you about the growing and breeding process of the Heliconia family.
You also learn about Suriname's national symbol: the palulu.
The next stop is the Neotropical Butterfly Garden in Lelydorp.
Here you get a guided tour through a patch of forest and the breeding areas (snakes, butterflies, turtles).
Then you are free to explore the butterfly garden and the insect and panorama sections.
After lunch we drive through Para and visit a traditional indigenous pottery and a woodcarving workshop.
At both places you can buy authentic souvenirs if you like.
After a fun, relaxing and informative day we return to Paramaribo.
Daily departures possible from 3 people.
You can find the scheduled departure dates in the tour overview.
Choose your departure date and options and add the tour to your cart. Then pay securely online with iDEAL, credit card, PayPal or Bancontact — your booking is confirmed immediately.
Brokopondo is known for the reservoir and its hydroelectric power plant, and also for the beautiful Brownsberg nature reserve.
From Paramaribo you travel by car to Commewijne. We cross the well-known Wijdenbosch Bridge and visit 4 different plantations.
A boat trip through Commewijne visits historic plantations such as Fort Nieuw Amsterdam, Frederiksdorp and Rust & Werk. A highlight is spotting dolphins.
