Dolphin spotting – sunset and dolphins tour
Spotting the Surinamese dolphin, the profosu, starts at 4:00 pm from a boat departing from Leonsberg.
The French Guiana day tour is a short introduction to our neighbouring country. From Paramaribo we drive to Albina.
Departure times and meeting points can change. If they do, everyone who has booked receives an e-mail straight away.
French Guiana is one of Suriname's neighbours and one of “the three Guianas”.
French Guiana is an overseas department of France, so French is spoken here.
For a fun day out, we drive to Albina and cross by dugout canoe (korjaal) to the border town of Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni.
This town is a tolerated zone that you can visit without stamps in your passport and without affecting your Surinamese visa.
(EU residents can enter French Guiana freely, but if you were to go beyond Saint-Laurent, which we don't do on this tour, you would need a new tourist visa for Suriname.)
In Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni you get the chance to stroll around the market and shop in one of the large supermarkets, Super U.
Here you will find mainly European (French) products.
We also visit the old prison where “Papillon” was held before being sent to Devil's Island.
You also get the local guided tour of the prison.
After this fun day we return to Paramaribo.
This tour only runs on Wednesdays and Saturdays (because of the market and the prison tour).
In French Guiana we walk; if walking is difficult for you, you can arrange a taxi ride at your own expense (via the guide). This costs around €8 per ride (per taxi).
Every Wednesday and Saturday from 3 people.
Other days are possible, but without the market visit.
You can find the scheduled departure dates in the tour overview.
Choose your departure date and options and add the tour to your cart. Then pay securely online with iDEAL, credit card, PayPal or Bancontact — your booking is confirmed immediately.
