Isadou is a large island in the Suriname River, diagonally opposite Jaw Jaw, and is very well kept. There are many cabins on the grounds and everything is of an above-average standard.
Departure times and meeting points can change. If they do, everyone who has booked receives an e-mail straight away.
Jaw Jaw is a Saramaccan village in the heart of Suriname on the Upper Suriname River, by the Jaw Jaw rapids.
Opposite the village, on a sizeable island, lies the Isadou resort.
The owner, Selientje, takes care of everything here together with her husband Andre and their staff.
There are fun activities on the programme, such as a village walk and a forest walk, and a night-time boat trip to spot caimans.
The surroundings are beautiful, with rapids (sulas) and calm swimming spots around the island.
At low water you can climb over the higher rocks yourself and walk to the village of Jaw Jaw.
You sleep in beds, and the simple lodges have shower and toilet facilities. Internet (Wi-Fi) is available.
If there is no accommodation available at Isadou on your preferred dates, you may be housed in similar lodges at Jaw Jaw (Djamaika resort).
You can also choose Jaw Jaw specifically, subject to availability.
What makes Isadou and Jaw Jaw unique is that they are run by local people, with staff recruited from the villagers.
Besides your stay, you get a real insight into the culture and way of life.

Apia was a man from the village of Gran Slee. The island (paati in Saramaccan) is named after him because he was the first to build a camp there.
