Day 1:
Today our nature and culture experience begins as we leave Paramaribo heading south.
At Paranam the asphalt road turns into a laterite road, and gradually the impressive forest giants and the villages appear.
After about 190 km we reach the village of Atjoni and begin an exciting trip by dugout canoe.
We sail for about 45 minutes in a motorised korjaal to the comfortable Anaula Nature Resort at the foot of the Ferulassi Falls, where you will spend the night.
Along the way we pass breathtaking nature and several Maroon villages, with children waving and women washing along the riverbank.
We also pass the wild Jaw Jaw rapids.
After checking in you have some time to explore the resort, after which a buffet lunch is served.
After dinner you get information about the area and an explanation of Saramaccan culture.

Day 2:
In the morning there is time to fish, swim or simply relax in a hammock by the river, enjoying the natural beauty and the wonderful views from the island.
After lunch we take a forest walk on the island where the resort is located.
During the walk you learn about the local medicinal use of plants. During the interior war in 1986, Ronnie Brunswijk's Jungle Commando visited the island for their ‘immortality rituals’.
The remains of these rituals remind us of this unique piece of history.
After the forest walk we take the korjaal to an uninhabited island in the Ferulassi rapids with a beautiful sandy beach, where we can relax, swim and enjoy a natural whirlpool.
After dinner an exciting adventure is on the programme: the caiman trip.
On this night-time boat trip you can also enjoy the beautiful starry sky and experience the total silence of the Amazon rainforest. (B/L/D)
Day 3:
After breakfast we take the korjaal to the village of Nieuw Aurora.
During the tour of the village you get to know the unique way of life of the local people and the traditional customs their ancestors brought from Africa.
We visit the mission post with, among other things, a church, a primary school and a medical post.
From Nieuw Aurora we walk to the nearby village of Gunsi, where the korjaal is waiting for us. Along the way we pass the locals' farm plots with various crops.
After dinner we can enjoy a cultural dance performance,
with traditional dances such as the Seketi, Awasa and Bandamba.
The cultural dance evening is only offered with a minimum of 8 guests.
Day 4:
You can spend this morning however you like.
You can swim, take a forest walk, relax in the lounge or quietly enjoy nature in a hammock.
After lunch we sail back to Atjoni, from where we leave by bus for Paramaribo.
The itinerary depends on the weather; it and the times may be adjusted.
Parts of the programme are flexible.
