Brownsberg and the Reservoir (Ston Island)
Brownsberg is world-famous as a nature reserve. It is a popular destination, a jungle paradise within easy reach, just a two-hour drive from Paramaribo.
From Witagron we travel upstream on the Coppename River and, after a boat trip through a stunning landscape, reach Fungu Island. On the island, which splits the Coppename River in two, lies a beautiful lodge.
Departure times and meeting points can change. If they do, everyone who has booked receives an e-mail straight away.
Visit the impressive Raleigh Falls on the Coppename River and climb the Voltzberg.
Tour to Raleigh Falls and the Voltzberg

The Raleigh Falls lie on the Upper Coppename River, one of the last uninhabited rivers on earth. In December 2000 the Raleigh Falls and the Voltzberg were added to the UNESCO World Heritage List. This is the ideal tour to enjoy all the natural beauty you could wish for, such as taking on the breathtaking Voltzberg. Together, the Raleigh Falls and the Voltzberg cover around 78,000 hectares. You can also enjoy an amazing variety of wildlife: 350 different bird species have been spotted here, and no fewer than 8 different species of monkey!
In short, a real must for every nature lover!
On the first day of the tour you travel from Paramaribo to the village of Witagron.
From there we travel the local way, by korjaal (a boat originally carved from a hollowed-out tree trunk), towards the Raleigh Falls.
Once you arrive at our accommodation you can relax, for example by enjoying the lush surroundings, swimming or cooling off at the edge of a rapid.
The next day you can enjoy a full programme, starting with the climb of the 240-metre-high Voltzberg.

Our experienced guides lead you through the tropical rainforest on an 8-hour trek, telling you about everything you see.
During the walk you may see and hear many different animals.
The climb of the Voltzberg and the view from the top are the highlights.
The pre-prepared lunch is eaten along the way, and on the way back you can take a refreshing dip in the Anjoemara Falls.
On the third day the Moeder Falls are on the programme, a little paradise on earth.
To reach this jungle trail, you once again take the korjaal for 5 minutes.
The Moeder Falls are impressive: the largest rapid (soela) in the Coppename River.
After visiting the Moeder Falls we return to the island and have lunch.
The afternoon is free to explore the island, swim or fish.
On the fourth day you get up in the morning for one last swim and to enjoy the beautiful nature.
Unfortunately the journey back to Paramaribo then begins, by korjaal and bus, with lunch along the way.
Any day you like, from 4 people.
You can find the scheduled departure dates in the tour overview.
The accommodation at Raleigh Falls is basic and government-run. Below is an overview of the different accommodations Fungu Island at Raleigh Falls has to offer.
Hammocks
On this tour we sleep in hammocks as standard.
Sleeping in a hammock is very doable, especially when your hammock is hung properly.
The view from the hammock accommodation is fantastic!
The building you sleep in was built entirely of wood by Conservation International.

Tamanua bunk bed camp
You can also choose to sleep in the Tamanua bunk bed camp, so you still sleep in a regular bed (albeit a bunk bed).
You are close to the toilets and showers and are provided with a mosquito net.
This costs €35 extra on top of the standard 3-day tour price.
Here are a few photos of the Tamanua bunk bed camp.
Tents with air mattresses are also available on request.
Gonini
There used to be another accommodation called Gonini, which still exists. Unfortunately, because of the poor condition of the building, we are no longer able to offer it.
