A day tour to Bigi Pan starts early in the morning. You leave Paramaribo at around 5:00 am to drive 250 kilometres to Nieuw Nickerie.
Along the way we stop at places worth seeing, such as Groningen, Alkmaar and Coronie.
Our guide tells you all about the area, its history and the places themselves.
On arrival in Nickerie, after a visit to the market and the sea dyke, we head for Bigi Pan.
Once we are out on the boat, you can spot many different bird species to your heart's content, and often some monkeys too.
There is a mud bath, and otherwise plenty of time to relax on the lake with a very knowledgeable boatman/guide.
After returning from Bigi Pan we drive back to Paramaribo, where we arrive in the early evening.
This is a long day tour covering many kilometres, but you get to see a lot in one day.
It is also possible to do Nickerie and Bigi Pan as a 2-day tour, staying overnight on Bigi Pan or in Nieuw Nickerie, if you have the time or if the pace of this tour seems too high.
