Brokopondo district tour
Brokopondo is known for the reservoir and its hydroelectric power plant, and also for the beautiful Brownsberg nature reserve.
The districts tour is a fun day trip to get to know 3 of our districts: Saramacca, Nickerie and Coronie.
Departure times and meeting points can change. If they do, everyone who has booked receives an e-mail straight away.
On the 3-districts tour we visit 3 districts west of Paramaribo: Saramacca, Coronie and Nickerie.
In Saramacca we stop in Groningen, where we visit the various monuments and highlights of Groningen and look at its history (the Boers, the leprosy colony, Hindustani immigration).
And of course we enjoy the magnificent view over the Saramacca River.
After visiting Groningen we drive on to Coronie.
There we stop in the small capital, Totness.
Coronie is known for its many coconut palms and typical Coronie houses, parwa honey, home-made oil and of course its friendly residents (people from Coronie are known nationwide for their kindness).
We also have lunch here (Hindustani or Javanese).
After lunch we drive on to Nickerie.
The Nickerie district has many rice fields; rice and bacoven (bananas) are the region's main export products.
There are also many rice companies and hulling mills.
We pay plenty of attention to these along the way, and in Wageningen we drive past the former SML (Stichting Machinale Landbouw) factory.
After Wageningen we drive to Nickerie's capital, Nieuw Nickerie.
There we visit the sea dyke, the backtrack route to Guyana, the Hindustani cremation site and the well-known Hindu temple.
Having seen Nieuw Nickerie, we begin the journey back to Paramaribo.
Every day from 4 people.

From Paramaribo you travel by car to Commewijne. We cross the well-known Wijdenbosch Bridge and visit 4 different plantations.
A boat trip through Commewijne visits historic plantations such as Fort Nieuw Amsterdam, Frederiksdorp and Rust & Werk. A highlight is spotting dolphins.
