Winti prey

2 September 2020

Following the programme ‘Oplichters ontmaskerd!’ (broadcast on 1 September on RTL5), recently shown on Dutch television, Winti has received attention in the media.

The programme focuses mainly on the so-called dark side, or voodoo (although Winti and voodoo are related, this is an incorrect label).
On websites and social media there were some indignant reactions, from both Surinamese people in Suriname and Surinamese people in the Netherlands.

Tour operator Jenny Tours now invites you to come and see for yourself,
at least as soon as that's possible again and Surinamese airspace reopens.

In consultation with, and with the approval of, the Winti community, Jenny Tours will offer a tour where you can attend a ceremony led by a Winti priest, accompanied by a guide.
That way you can form your own picture of this interesting faith with its many aspects.

Everything will be scheduled when ceremonies are available, with the consent of the local Winti priest, who will inform the regular attendees in advance.
During the ceremony you may not ask questions or disturb, but afterwards you can ask the guide your questions.

Guests will never become the subject of the ceremony unless they explicitly say they wish to.
