Raleigh Falls – Voltzberg 4 days
From Witagron we travel upstream on the Coppename River and, after a boat trip through a stunning landscape, reach Fungu Island.
A 2-day back-to-basics tour where we stay overnight on one of the islands. We paddle along the forest edge in search of adventure and wildlife.
Departure times and meeting points can change. If they do, everyone who has booked receives an e-mail straight away.
For 2 days of back-to-basics adventure we head to one of the islands in the Brokopondo Reservoir.
The reservoir lies in the Afobaka area in the Brokopondo district.
It was completed in 1964 to supply energy to the bauxite industry (the former Suralco plant in Paranam, which you pass on the way).
About 1,500 km² was flooded to create the reservoir, and the islands you see on the lake today are actually the former hilltops of a large stretch of tropical rainforest.
About 2.5 to 3 hours' drive from Paramaribo is the spot on the reservoir where we get into the boat.
From here we paddle to the island where we will spend the night.
On arrival we set up camp: tying up hammocks with mosquito nets, making a campfire and setting up a makeshift kitchen to cook the food.
After that it's time to fish for dinner (we do bring back-up, of course, for the small chance that it doesn't work out).

Brownsberg is world-famous as a nature reserve. It is a popular destination, a jungle paradise within easy reach, just a two-hour drive from Paramaribo.
Available as a 3- or 4-day back-to-basics tour, with nights in hammocks at various small camps and hikes through the forest.
