Brokopondo district tour
Brokopondo is known for the reservoir and its hydroelectric power plant, and also for the beautiful Brownsberg nature reserve. We visit the transmigration villages, where the guide tells you about the area and its history.
Description
Brokopondo is a district in Suriname with around 20,000 inhabitants, 80% of whom are Maroons and 20% from other population groups.
The district is known for the reservoir, logging, gold mining and ecotourism, and consists largely of tropical rainforest and the reservoir (which covers an area comparable to the entire Dutch province of Utrecht).
The district is divided into 6 resorts (administrative areas):
- Brownsweg
- Centrum
- Marshallkreek
- Klaaskreek
- Kwakoegron
- Sarakreek
On this day tour we take you to the highlights of this district.
We look at the Saramaccan Maroon villages, the transmigration village, the stunning rainforest, the reservoir and the dam, as well as logging, gold mining, and the history and development of the area.
There is plenty to see and to hear, because the guide has lots to tell.
