Brownsberg Nature Park day tour
Brownsberg is a world-famous nature reserve and a beautiful day tour: a jungle paradise within easy reach, two hours' drive from Paramaribo. The thirteen-kilometre climb up the mountain is an adventure in itself, especially in the rainy season. “The poison dart frog looks at you, the spider monkey swings through the trees. At night the howler monkeys drive you crazy, and if you're lucky you'll spot the mighty eagle soaring over the primeval forest.”

Dolphin spotting: sunset and dolphin tour
Spotting the Surinamese dolphin, the profosu, starts at 4:00 pm by boat from Leonsberg. The profosu is a small dolphin with a short beak and a bump on its head. It is grey, brown or bluish on top and light grey, white or pinkish underneath, with a clearly recognisable triangular dorsal fin and fairly short flippers. It grows to 1.30–1.90 metres and weighs up to 53 kilos. The dolphins are active by day and live in small groups of up to about 10, sometimes alone.

Quad/ATV riding, buggy/UTV, zipline (canopy), SUP boarding +
The savannah is a tropical grassland with scattered trees, where grasses and herbs are the most common vegetation. Galibi (sea turtles) and French Guiana, 2 or 3 days
The giant sea turtles travel thousands of kilometres to Galibi to lay their eggs. The egg-laying, especially of the leatherback (which can grow up to 2 metres!), is a wondrous spectacle that takes place at night on the beaches of Galibi. It's a real privilege to witness this intimate and touching scene up close.
Galibi itself is a beautiful nature reserve that's more than worth a visit. A fun fact: Galibi originally consisted of two villages, Christiaankondre and Langamankondre, named after two brothers who fell out over a woman and each started their own village.

Braamspunt sea-turtle night tour
Braamspunt lies on the coast at the mouth of the Suriname River, in the west of the Commewijne district. Although it's a small area, it's well worth visiting, especially for the chance to spot dolphins on the way and for the sea turtles that come to lay their eggs on the beach at night.
“The krape: slow but tough, sluggish but a dream. In the dark you watch the egg-laying of this descendant of an ancient reptile.”

Dolphins and Caimans
The dolphin tour is one almost every visitor to Suriname takes, but it gets even more exciting combined with catching caimans. From Leonsberg we sail past Nieuw Amsterdam on the Suriname and Commewijne rivers to spot the dolphins, then have an authentic dinner with a Hindustani family. As it gets dark we head into the swamp in small boats to look for caimans, which are caught in an animal-friendly way: you can hold one briefly, and of course take a selfie. A super exciting tour!

Paramaribo city tour by bike or on foot
The history of Fort Zeelandia is closely tied to the history of Suriname. In 1613 Dutch merchants set up a trading post near the indigenous village of Parmurbo (from which Paramaribo takes its name); the French, the English and finally the Dutch built and rebuilt a fort on the same spot. Discover this and much more on a walk or ride through the historic inner city.
